Are you thinking about getting a new dog or maybe even a puppy? Yay! We’re so happy for you. Dogs become our beloved companions and words cannot even express how much they add to our lives. There are so many things that you’ll need to get them started on the right foot, making choices about how and what to feed, bowls, collars and leashes, fence or no fence, can they sit on the couch, or are they allowed to sleep on our bed? Where should they potty? Should I crate them? What should I do if they’re crying, comfort or let them be?
There are many resources to find out the answers and we are always happy to help. There is no right or wrong answer, but at the end of the day, you really have to do what’s right for you, your family and lifestyle. It’s important to remember consistency, routine, and staying on the schedule is key for a happy and healthy pup. Wake every day at the same time to take your pup out first. Feed at the same time and don’t leave the bowl out or you’ll create a grazer! If they don’t eat in the amount of time that you’ve given them simply take the bowl away, we promise they’ll learn. Keep taking them out for potty breaks and if they make a mistake bring them outside again to foster the understanding that the right place to do their business is outside. You’ve got this!
